Pure Mountain Inspiration

Meridian Mudworks originated during the summer of 2023, in Crested Butte, Co. I’m Nina Kisker, the owner and maker, and I live with my husband, our son, our 2 yellow labs, and our 2 kitty cats. I love making pottery, being outside with my family, playing instruments, and traveling. I’ve also decided to go back to school at Western State University in Gunnison where I’m in my senior year of getting my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics. I love bringing art to everyday life through clay and appreciate each and every person that supports my passion through purchasing my work. Thank you!

I work out of my home studio in Meridian Lake.

All of my available work is for sale here, and even more at summer art festivals! If you’re interested in a custom order, you can message me about pricing and time allowance.

My pottery journey began when I took 4 years of ceramics in high school, which was a very long time ago. Based on that work I was invited to take classes at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, where I was able to study the work of historic and present day art from around the world and then create my own works based on those different art styles.

After High School, I moved to Colorado, got a degree in Wilderness Studies,  and I centered my life around outdoor sports. I always managed to tap into my artistic side through painting, doing leatherwork, and having a landscaping business in Aspen. I’m also a musician, who plays classical piano, guitar, banjo, fiddle, and sings. It wasn’t until my family moved to Crested Butte in 2021, that I took classes at the Crested Butte Clay Center, which re-sparked my love of clay.

My pots are all about bold colors, abstract landscapes, and a rustic vibe. There is an underlying theme of “place” in them, because my work is deeply rooted in where I live, work, and play. I sit at 9,500 feet among wildflowers, lakes, and ragged mountain peaks of Crested Butte, Colorado, and travel to tropical beaches of Central America. These powerful forces of nature show up in my pieces. The bright orange of an Indian Paintbrush flower against the pale green of sagebrush; the deep to light gradients of blue water, crashing against a shoreline, the five different shades of white that I see when I look across a field of snow. Through clay, I am able to express my appreciation for the Earth’s natural beauty and translate what I see into art that can be used in everyday life.

Leather Goods

Steve “The Wallet Man”

You’ll see that there’s also a link on the site to leather goods. My husband Steve, “The Wallet Man”, is the maker of these. We are self taught leather workers, and make rustic handstitched leather wallets from cowhides. Nothing fancy, and very functional- just how we like our leather.

Family

Thriving at 9,500′

Steve and I have a 9 year old son Colten and a 24 year old daughter Willa. When I’m not getting muddy in the studio, we’re out nordic skiing, downhilling, mountain biking, jumping on the trampoline, removing snow from our driveway, or traveling around to the desert in our camper.

Thank you for visiting our site!
